I'll go first...Believing the lies that I am only as good, or as valuable, or as loved as the last thing I produced, the last mistake I made, or the way others perceive me. And then I transfer all of that onto God as his perception of me.

Yes, yes, yes!! I relate to making accommodations. It's one thing to meet another person where they are, but it's something else to attempt to become someone else in order to feel loved and accepted.

I just finished reading The Relational Soul by Richard Plass and James Cofield. In it, they talk about living from the false self and true self. This quote stood out to me:

"We are in the fight of our life. We are masters at creating an image. In our desperation, each of us forms psychological defenses to protect ourselves from exaggerated shame, fear, and guilt. We do this to feel safe and secure, because we are alone and no longer trust God completely."

Living from the true self requires us to trust that we are who God says we are: called, loved, and kept (Jude 1:1).

Too concerned about the outcome and not trusting God enough in His stitching!! My mother taught me how to sew when I was pretty young, and I loved seeing a piece of fabric turned into a beautiful garment using pins and stitches! This is such a great reminder to trust God in His handiwork. His creation is always beautiful!! ❤️

Believing that what others believe about me is what gives me value.

Gosh. I know. And we fail to remember that when we see ourselves through the eyes of others, we are seeing through the lens of imperfect people. It’s only when we see ourselves through God’s eyes. Why is that so hard?

It’s tough. I think it’s easier to believe what we see. That part with skin on. Not the “unseen” God of the universe.

Yes ma'am! This is so true. Dr. Curt Thompson talks about that. He says, "we are all born into this world looking for someone looking for us." We see ourselves through the eyes of another, which makes it so important that we see Jesus seeing us. We have to fight to see ourselves through his eyes—eyes that were wholly set on the cross for the joy of redeeming and restoring us to him.
